A Note From Our Administrators

Dear Manor Woods Community,

We did it!!! and we have a lot to be happy about.  This week was a great week of celebrations.  We celebrated with our Kindergarten students as they performed for their families singing songs of joy.  It was a great event and we couldn’t be more proud of our Kindergarten students.  Third grade performed a short play for our second and fifth grade students entitled, "Going Buggy." It was a play enjoyed by all and taught by Ms. Rinaldi and Mr. Dobson. We celebrated with our fifth grade students with an outdoor closing ceremony with their parents and enjoyed our time recognizing each and every student. It was a fantastic celebration, and it was so nice to see how these students have matured during their time here at Manor Woods. Each team had a picnic and many of the grades were able to eat in the pavilion. Lastly, we had a wonderful Duck Disco last Friday night that was sponsored by the PTA. We had at least 400+ people on our playground enjoying a dance or two, glow necklaces, sun glasses, and snowcones. Yesterday, we gave the children the opportunity to “move-up” and see what their next grade area looks and feels like. They were thrilled!

Our year has been amazing. We have 103 Kindergarteners that are making their way up to first grade. We are saying goodbye to 133 fifth-graders. It is sad to say goodbye but we know they are going to do great things. Total number of Covid Cases? Well, we aren’t going there but we did our very best to keep things clean and keep our staff and students safe!! Let’s say goodbye to this Covid year and look towards better things to come!

On behalf of the staff at Manor Woods, we wish you a wonderful, safe, and exciting summer.

Fondly,

Carol DeBord
Principal

School News

All parents/guardians are in our system to receive HCPSS and school emails/text messages. HCPSS systems will update in early August, at which point parents will automatically receive communication from your child’s 2022-2023 school. Prior to that rollover, you will continue to receive communication from your child’s 2021-2022 school. Please do not attempt to create a new account with your child’s 2022-2023 school. Additionally, unsubscribing from any HCPSS or school messages will block you from receiving all messages from the district and your child’s school. Please do not unsubscribe!

Change Matters Campaign Update- Wow! Our Manor Woods community donated $1,340.45 to Grassroots, Howard County's only 24-hour crisis and homeless shelter. All the money collected helps Grassroots maintain their high level of services to our community. Way to go Manor Woods superheroes! To see the impact you made, read the Grassroots Buy A Day stats.

The Howard County Library System

The Howard County Library System loves connecting with students, families and staff at your school!

We are eager for families to know all the free, fun, and excellent enrichment they can get at the Library this summer. We've attached a summer reading promotional toolkit, with newsletter and social media content pre-written (English and Spanish) and a great video. Please click here to view promotional toolkit and click here for more details.

We are working to increase summer reading participation and support students having a literacy-rich break. Every elementary student will receive a paper gameboard through their media specialist during a presentation on HCLS summer reading.  We hope your students read all summer and complete the game!  In the fall, we will give every school that achieves 15% completion a certificate and additional recognition.
