We were in awe of every student! Thank you to Mrs. Shawyer for all your hard work and dedication to our young musicians and to our school. BRAVO!
Congratulations to the many orchestra, band and chorus members who performed at the Howard County Solo & Ensemble Festival on Saturday. These students chose and performed music in small groups or as soloists in this student-led county-wide event.
Amazing!
Congratulations to Jonah Diamant and Camden Sedghi who represented Manor Woods in the Howard County Honors Orchestra concert.
We are so proud of you!

INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING
Early Pickup Reminder
To ensure smooth end-of-day procedures, please plan to pick up your child no later than 2:55 pm. This helps us maintain a focused learning environment and ensures the safety and smooth dismissal of all students. Picking up students after this time can disrupt classroom activities and interfere with dismissal procedures. Early dismissals cannot be conducted after 2:55 pm.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide the best possible environment for all students!
Reporting Student Absences
If your student is absent or will be absent, please contact us at the following email address to explain the reason: MWESabsence@hcpss.org. In the email, please Include the following information:
- Student First and Last Name
- Teacher
- Grade
- Date of Absence
- Reason for absence (e.g., illness, bereavement, observance of a religious holiday, lack of transportation). You may copy your child’s teacher on the attendance email if you’d like.
Even if you have notified MWES of your upcoming absence, HCPSS will send out an automated email message whenever a student is absent. MWES will make sure your child is marked accurately on their attendance record.

April is National Poetry Month!!
Next Thursday, April 10th, we will be celebrating National “Poem in Your Pocket Day.” On this day, students and staff are encouraged to bring in a poem from home or write a poem down and place the poem in their pocket. The students will read and share with their classmates and staff. We will be providing additional poems to grade levels for students who need a poem for that day.
MCAP
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that states administer annual state assessments to all students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school.
Manor Woods students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in both ELA and math. The MCAP provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. For more information, visit https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/mcap/.
The MCAP assessment window is Monday, April 7 - Friday, May 30. Specific testing dates are below for each grade level. Please make every effort to have your child attend school on testing days and to refrain from scheduling any appointments during these times to minimize missing instruction due to make-up testing. There is no need to study for the MCAP. To prepare, have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.
