Dear Manor Woods Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break! It has been great welcoming the students back this week! The end of the school year is an exciting time with a lot of fun activities and events. Each grade level is working to finalize dates and times and all will be shared by grade level teams soon.

A HUGE SHOUT OUT to our PTA for sponsoring our Cultural Night last night. This event is always the most attended Manor Woods event and it is truly an evening to learn more about our community and the amazing make-up of the many different cultures represented within our school and beyond! It was wonderful to spend time talking with so many families while enjoying the delicious food, watching the amazing performances and learning more about the many cultures that represent our school. We are so appreciative of our PTA for sponsoring the event and collaborating with our staff as well as the many families who volunteered to be a part of this great event! THANK YOU!

At 4:00pm today, you can access your child's third quarter report card. Report cards will be available via HCPSS Connect. We encourage families to log into their accounts to view their child’s report cards. Please contact our front office if you have any questions or difficulty accessing report cards.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

PTA-SPONSORED MWES CULTURAL NIGHT

Greetings MWES Families,

Thank you for making our Culture Night a truly meaningful and memorable celebration! Your creativity, time, and energy brought so much joy to our school community. From vibrant performances and delicious food to thoughtful displays, the evening was a beautiful tribute to the rich diversity that makes MWES so special.

This event would not have been possible without each and every one of you. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful MC, Maria; our talented audio director, Mr.Lee; our great coordinators, Samantha, Khadeeja, Jada, and Soyoun; the passport, water table, decoration, and setup teams; our talented photographers, Melissa and Annie; our incredible food, sports, and display volunteers—and of course, our amazing performers!

Special thanks to our PTA for organizing such a beautiful event.

We’re also grateful to Annie and Soyoun for sharing the Padlet, and to Melissa for capturing the night in her photo gallery:

Thank you again for helping make this night a true success!

With appreciation,

MWES Cultural Committee Team

INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING

Early Pickup Reminder

To ensure smooth end-of-day procedures, please plan to pick up your child no later than 2:55 pm. This helps us maintain a focused learning environment and ensures the safety and smooth dismissal of all students. Picking up students after this time can disrupt classroom activities and interfere with dismissal procedures. Early dismissals cannot be conducted after 2:55 pm.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide the best possible environment for all students!

Reporting Student Absences

If your student is absent or will be absent, please contact us at the following email address to explain the reason: MWESabsence@hcpss.org. In the email, please Include the following information:

  • Student First and Last Name
  • Teacher
  • Grade
  • Date of Absence
  • Reason for absence (e.g., illness, bereavement, observance of a religious holiday, lack of transportation). You may copy your child’s teacher on the attendance email if you’d like.

Even if you have notified MWES of your upcoming absence, HCPSS will send out an automated email message whenever a student is absent. MWES will make sure your child is marked accurately on their attendance record.

If you know your child will be absent for more than 3 days or would like to request days, please fill out an EXTENDED ABSENCE DISCRETIONARY ABSENCE Form. Feel free to email the completed form to caroline_chisholm@hcpss.org

MCAP

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that states administer annual state assessments to all students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school.

Manor Woods students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in both ELA and math.  The MCAP provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.  For more information, visit https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/mcap/.

The MCAP assessment window is Monday, April 7 - Friday, May 30.  Specific testing dates are below for each grade level.  Please make every effort to have your child attend school on testing days and to refrain from scheduling any appointments during these times to minimize missing instruction due to make-up testing.  There is no need to study for the MCAP.  To prepare, have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.

3rd Grade - April 28, 29, 30 and May 2

4th Grade - April 28, 29, 30 and May 2
