Dear Manor Woods Families,

We had another great week at Manor Woods! As we near the end of the school year, we have so many wonderful events, activities and celebrations planned for our students. Yesterday, our 5th grade students participated in one of these amazing 5th grade events ~ Simulated Congressional Hearings.

CONGRATULATIONS to our 5th grade students! We proudly celebrate the outstanding efforts of our students who showcased their knowledge, poise, and civic understanding through their simulated congressional hearing presentations. Each group demonstrated a deep commitment to research, critical thinking, and respectful discourse as they addressed constitutional issues. Their articulate arguments, thoughtful responses to challenging questions, and teamwork were a testament to their hard work and dedication. A HUGE THANK to our staff for all your hard work in preparing students for their presentations!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

MWES IMPORTANT SUMMER UPDATE: MWES CAMPUS CLOSURE FOR

HVAC RENOVATION

We hope this message finds you well. As we approach the end of the school year, we want to inform you about an important update regarding our campus during the upcoming summer months.

Our school and campus will be closed this summer due to Phase 2 of a major HVAC renovation project that is scheduled to begin shortly after the school year ends. Phase 3, the final phase of the HVAC renovation, will take place in the summer of 2026. This essential work will ensure a more comfortable and efficient environment for our students and staff.

For safety reasons, the campus grounds will not be accessible to the community at any time during the summer. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a secure environment for all involved in the renovation process.

Our front office staff and administration will be working from an alternate location during this time. We will share details about this temporary location and how to reach us in the coming weeks.

In preparation for the renovation, staff will begin packing up their classrooms and workspaces. To support this effort, our wonderful PTA will be sending out a survey soon for parents interested in volunteering to help staff with packing tasks. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we make these important improvements to our school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

May Celebrations

May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI).

Early Pickup Reminder

To ensure smooth end-of-day procedures, please plan to pick up your child no later than 2:55 pm. This helps us maintain a focused learning environment and ensures the safety and smooth dismissal of all students. Picking up students after this time can disrupt classroom activities and interfere with dismissal procedures. Early dismissals cannot be conducted after 2:55 pm.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide the best possible environment for all students!

MCAP

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that states administer annual state assessments to all students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school.

Manor Woods students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in both ELA and math.  The MCAP provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.  For more information, visit https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/mcap/.

The MCAP assessment window is Monday, April 7 - Friday, May 30.  Specific testing dates are below for each grade level.  Please make every effort to have your child attend school on testing days and to refrain from scheduling any appointments during these times to minimize missing instruction due to make-up testing.  There is no need to study for the MCAP.  To prepare, have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.
