From School Administration

Dear Manor Woods Families,

A HUGE SHOUT OUT to our PTO for sponsoring our Multicultural Festival last night at Marriotts Ridge HS! This event is always the most attended Manor Woods event and it is truly an evening to learn more about our community and the amazing make-up of the many different cultures represented within our school and beyond! It was wonderful to spend time talking with so many families while enjoying the delicious food, watching the amazing performances and learning more about the many cultures that represent our school. We are so appreciative of our PTO for sponsoring the event and collaborating with our staff as well as the many families who volunteered to be a part of this great event! THANK YOU!

Tuesday, April 14th marked the end of the third quarter. We are very very proud of our Mighty Ducks and all of their hard work throughout the quarter! With the start of fourth quarter, we know this can be a very busy time for our students/families with spring sports, activities and/or events and we appreciate your support and collaboration in helping to keep our students present and ready to learn each day. Our staff is dedicated to ending the school year with a strong fourth quarter for our students!

At 4:00 PM on Friday, April 24th, you can access your child's third quarter report card. Report cards will be available via HCPSS Connect. We encourage families to log into their accounts to view their child’s report cards. Please contact our front office if you have any questions or difficulty accessing report cards.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Take Your Child to Work Day 2026 ~ Thursday, April 23rd

Take Your Daughters and/or Sons to Work Day is a public education program sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women, which was launched in 1992. This year, Take Our Daughters and/or Sons to Work Day will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The Howard County Public School System supports this program, which encourages students to go to work with an adult mentor. It is a great opportunity for students to investigate future careers!

If your student is going to participate in this program, please complete and submit THIS FORM by Wednesday, 4/22/26. Any HCPSS student who has submitted the attached form requesting to participate in this national program will be considered excused, and therefore marked as a “field trip” for their attendance on 4/23/26. Please contact Manor Woods Elementary School at 410-313-7165 if you have additional questions.

Early Pickup/Afterschool Activities Reminders

To ensure smooth end-of-day procedures, please plan to pick up your child no later than 2:55 pm for an early pickup. This helps us maintain a focused learning environment and ensures the safety and smooth dismissal of all students. Picking up students after this time can disrupt classroom activities and interfere with dismissal procedures. Early dismissals cannot be conducted after 2:55 pm. If you arrive after 3:00 pm, you will need to wait in the car loop line until our regular dismissal begins.

Please bring your driver's license for any early dismissal.

If your child has an after-school activity, please provide a note each day. This will help for a smoother dismissal as there are many days our students visit the front office at dismissal with questions regarding an afterschool activity and if they are supposed to stay at school for the activity. A note will help the teacher and your child remember the activity on a weekly basis.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide the best possible environment for all students!

Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)

Manor Woods students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in both ELA and math.  The MCAP provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.  For more information, visit https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/mcap/.

The MCAP assessment window is Tuesday, April 7 - Friday, May 29.  Specific testing dates are below for each grade level.  Please make every effort to have your child attend school on testing days and to refrain from scheduling any appointments during these times to minimize missing instruction due to make-up testing.  There is no need to study for the MCAP.  To prepare, have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.

MCAP ELA

3rd Grade - April 20, 21, 22, and 24

4th Grade - April 8, 10, 13, and 14

5th Grade - April 8, 10, 13, and 14
