Important Information

MCAP Testing - Grades, 3, 4, and 5

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that states administer annual state assessments to all students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school.

Manor Woods students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in both ELA and math.  The MCAP provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.  For more information, visit https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/mcap/.

The MCAP assessment window is Monday, April 25 - Friday, June 3.  Parents of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 received a Canvas message from your child’s teacher regarding specific testing dates for your child’s grade level.  Please make every effort to have your child attend school on testing days and to refrain from scheduling any appointments during these times.  There is no need to study for the MCAP.  To prepare, have your child get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.

FROM THE HEALTH ROOM:

Just a reminder, allergy season has arrived.  If your child is restricted to stay indoors during recess/Phys Ed class (this includes Field Day), a PHYSICIANS NOTE IS REQUIRED stating dates/length of time that the student is to be excused.  Students will need to report to the Health Room during that time frame.  Please keep in mind the Health Room is very busy, however, Health Room staff will accommodate space for these students as needed.

Please contact the Health Room directly at (410) 313-8326 if you have any questions.

Free Summer Meals

HCPSS will continue providing free meals to all HCPSS students and any children aged 18 and under, weekdays from June 27-Aug. 12, with the exception of July 4 and 19. Full details, including site locations, can be found online.

AAPI Heritage Month Film Festival

In honor of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Heritage Month, HCPSS’ Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and its AAPI Advisory Committee are sponsoring a showing of The Farewell on Saturday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Centennial High School Auditorium. The film sheds light on the cultural differences between East and West and between generations in philosophy, life, beliefs, tradition and the way to interact with family members

Call for Volunteers

HCPSS is seeking volunteers to serve as judges for the fifth-grade Simulated Congressional Hearings in May and June. This year’s program will be a hybrid event, with students performing together in the classroom and judges joining virtually. https://sch.hcpss.org/messages/sign-judge

Details on the Simulated Congressional Hearings, including a link on how to register, are available online.
